Where we are

Uniquely situated in the middle of the Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park (www.parks.vic.gov.au/places-to-see/parks/chiltern-mt-pilot-national-park ) with sweeping views across a picturesque dam and bushland all around, Blue Gate Cottage offers you the opportunity to immerse yourself in nature (without missing out on mod cons). Spot kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, echidnas, goannas and plenty more, or befriend friendly goats next door - every moment here is touched by nature’s magic.
Explore nearby towns time forgot, or simply laze on the verandah with a good book. Watch spectacular sunsets and, at night, the near-complete darkness offers unforgettable star-filled skies.

What makes it so special

Although Blue Gate Cottage feels worlds away from the hustle & bustle of 'normal' life, it’s positioned right between the historic charm of Beechworth and the conveniences of Wodonga. Enjoy day trips to other quaint little towns nearby, like Yackandandah and Chiltern, explore wineries, sample local artisan fare, browse boutique shops, and delve into the region’s rich gold rush heritage before returning to the tranquility of your private bush retreat. Best of all, you’re close enough to the Hume Freeway for an easy drive from Melbourne, yet completely without the usual traffic noise.
For adventurers and creatives
The area surrounding Blue Gate Cottage offers endless opportunities not only for nature-lovers and adventurers, but also for photographers and artists. Trails for hiking & biking wind through the national park that envelops the property. There's also plenty of flora and fauna to explore (goannas, variety of lizzards, koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, wombats, ringtail possums, antechinus and sugar gliders) with unexpected vistas at every turn. And the minimal light pollution after dark ensures truly breathtaking night skies.
For bird lovers
More than 200 bird species have made their home in the Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park, including two of Australia's most threatened birds – the Swift Parrot and the Regent Honeyeater, which we have regularly seen here. Following is a list of other birds we have spotted here so far:

“As a passionate bird enthusiast, I was in absolute heaven at Blue Gate Cottage!
From the regal White-Faced Heron gliding across the dam to the curious Gang-Gangs
